Working Mom

A Day in the Life of a #Workingmomofthree

English version of this post is available below.

Hello, I’m Mamington, a working mom of three. I am the type to tell myself that time is priceless that I should use my 24 hours as effectively as possible. I struggled a bit with my schedule once the pandemic took over our lives, and there are many irregularities and challenges in our daily lives, but I feel that I am able to get more chores done while working from home. Obvious element being that I save time to commute, but I find that I am more effective with the “few minutes” in between meetings or tasks where I could switch on the roomba or put some veggies in a pot to prepare stew. Below is a sample day of a working mom of three who is temporarily working from home due to the pandemic situation.

  • 6:30 Wake up, breakfast prep.
  • 7:00 Prepare bento box.
  • 7:30 Get kids ready. Elementary school kids can go to school on their own and daddy will take the preschooler to school.
  • 8:00 Chores. With my buddies (laundry machine and roomba) for my 30 minutes of morning chores.
  • 8:30 Break, Change, Make-up. still wear make-up while working from home for work meetings on Zoom!
  • 9:00 Work.
  • 12:30 Lunch, Chores. I try to spend some time to prep for dinner (chopping vegetables, get the crock pot going, etc.) depending on how busy my work day is.
  • 13:30 Work.
  • 18:00 Pick-up kids.
  • 19:00 Cook. The kids will take bathes while I cook.
  • 19:30 Dinner & Family time. This is the golden time where we eat, talk, laugh, play games, watch TV, and enjoy just being together (and more frequently than not it is the hour where mommy’s yelling is most profound because the kids have talents for giving mommy many many reasons to get mad… like walking around before finishing dinner or starting endless fights between the siblings)
  • 21:00 Put kids to sleep.
  • 21:30 Work. I frequently have conference calls with my global counterparts, so I reserve an hour of work time in the evening.
  • 22:30 Me Time. I spend this time mostly for exercise, blogging or watching Netflix.
  • 0:00 Bath and Relax.
  • 1:00 Bed.

Every day is a busy day and it really is a work of art how parents fit their to-do’s in their schedule. Putting the scheduling puzzle together can feel overwhelming, but seeing how much I accomplish can be a confidence booster as well. In any case, I do feel that my partnership with the hubby is essential. We use an app called Timetree that allows us to color code each person’s schedule and ensure transparency in our schedules.

What are your creative tricks for managing your schedule while considering work life balance and your family’s needs?
