Eco-Friendly Habits

English version of this post is available below.

Hello, I’m Mamington, a working mom of three.

Even a small intention to reduce waste is an important cause. Introducing today is our dried tangerine peels and mizuna (Japanese mustard greens) being re-grown right in our kitchen.

Tangerine peels tend to be thrown away without a second of doubt, but these peels being dried for a few days end up becoming excellent ingredients for fruit jam, cookies, muffins, and even as tangy scents for a hot bath. And they are super simple to make. Wash the tangerine before eating. Save the peels. Dry them in sunlight for a few days and voilà, dried tangerine peels. Chop them up, boil them with water and other fruits, and you end up with handmade jam for your breakfast.

The mustard greens also are effortless to grow. When cooking a bundle of greens, save the roots. Put the roots in a small pudding cup and pour enough water to cover the roots. Wait a week and you will see the leaves happily growing taller and taller. They taste great, or in my case, I can share the re-grown leaves with our rodent family members. They will be so happy to see fresh greens for a snack.
