Working Mom

Thankful Thursday

English version of this post is available below.

Hello, I’m Mamington, a working mom of three. It is a rainy day in Tokyo, more than 1000 are newly infected by COVID in Tokyo alone, and this day is not screaming optimism to our faces. Low atmospheric pressure can cause headaches or joint pains, motivation feels low, and our bodies and minds both are feeling more volatile ups and downs. But there are ways, I believe, that we can create positivity even in this environment with elements that we cannot control. One way is to express gratitude. I am practicing to articulate 5 things that I am thankful for, no matter how small.

“To the essential workers in the world, thank you for all that you do to help people and to keep us safe while sacrificing your own well being. I am forever grateful.”

“Thank you to all the teachers who spend hours driving on this rainy day to safely transport children to after-school childcare programs.”

“Thank you to my three children who spent joyful days at elementary school and kindergarten without hurting themselves or getting sick.”

“Thank you to my hubby for asking to have lunch together despite me always complaining about how busy I am.”

“Thank you to my coffee maker who is always working so hard to provide me with caffeine in the morning and throughout the day in this new normal of working from home.”

It does not matter who you thank or what you thank. Expressing words of gratitude, whether verbally or on paper, will only make us feel good and it may remind us to make others feel good by communicating our gratitude to them. What are you thankful for today?
