COVID-19 Recovery At Home (English)
Hello, I’m Mamington, a working mom of three.
I tested positive for COVID-19 a week and a half ago. It was most likely the Omicron variant, although not confirmed. All along, I have been misunderstanding the meaning of “light symptoms” when the news describes this Omicron variant as having light symptoms. To be honest, this was tough. I have completed my 10 day quarantine period and can live a semi-normal life at home, but I am still coughing and suffering an evil headache. I guess the symptoms are different for each person, but I have recorded below what my recuperation period was like at home.
- 38 year old female
- Symptoms appeared on: 2/4/2022
- PCR Test: 2/5/2022
- Positive confirmation: 2/6/2022
Summary of Symptoms:
- Day 1 (Fever 36.8): Fatigue, chill, dizziness, coughs, sore throat
- Day 2 (Fever 37.3): Fatigue, chill, dizziness, coughs, sore throat, light fever
- Day 3 (Fever 38.3): Fatigue, chill, dizziness, coughs, sore throat, high fever
- Day 4 (Fever 38.9): Fatigue, chill, dizziness, coughs, sore throat, high fever, stuffy nose, yellow phlegm
- Day 5 (Fever 36.3): Fatigue, headache, coughs, sore throat, stuffy nose, yellow phlegm
- Day 6 (Fever 36.0): Fatigue, headache, coughs, stuffy nose, yellow phlegm, loss of taste
- Day 7 (Fever 36.1): Fatigue, headache, coughs, stuffy nose, yellow phlegm, loss of taste
- Day 8 (Fever 36.0): Headache, coughs, yellow phlegm, loss of taste
- Day 9 (Fever 36.0): Headache, coughs, yellow phlegm, loss of taste
- Day 10 (Fever 36.0): Headache, coughs, yellow phlegm
While I was recuperating at home, I did not receive any phone calls from the health bureau but my neighborhood doctor called me 3 times to check and record my condition. Viral infections generally do not cause yellow phlegm, so the doctor is guessing that I had sinusitis simultaneously. I will receive some anti-biotics tomorrow to treat the symptom.
This observation might be specific to me, but I felt like this Omicron variant was a repeat of taking 2 steps and taking 1 step back when it came to recovery. One day I felt better, but the next day I felt worse. `0 days have passed since my symptoms first appeared, but I am still suffering from coughs and headaches. There were days where I could only breath through my mouth which resulted in severe drying of my mouth and lips that I kept dreaming about thirst. My phlegmy nose and throat went through 2 full boxes of tissues.
Keeping the family fed was also a challenge. I could not really get out of bed until the 8th day, and of course I was under quarantine so even if I could move, I could not go shop. The government sent 2 boxes of microwavable food which was a savior, and I leveraged uber and Amazon Fresh religiously to obtain fresh vegetables, fruits and dairy products. I never appreciated delivery services as much as I did during this recuperation period.
“Light symptoms” did not really mean easy. It just means that I did not need hospitalization. Has Omicron peaked in Tokyo? I honestly do not want to be infected again. Praying that this virus weakens or diminishes as soon as possible…
